Windows will accept security updates till 2028. According to your decision, if you agree, then we have one last step: checkout!
After long deliberation, Microsoft has now conceded to an additional Security Update Extension Program (ESU) which runs beyond the previously announced October 14, 2025. This enables you to receive monthly security updates even after the official date of offering but the charges will not be for free.
1 full version (including the 3 years of security patches after the official end of support)
Microsoft the ESU program, generally speaking, which means that for the next 3 years publishers, the Windows 10 life cycle could be extended by another year, because Microsoft has stuck to this promise for Windows 7. However, while before companies and companies professionals were the only ones using the EiE programmers, this time, for the first time, all users will be able to use it.
Even, as of now, Microsoft hasn’t stated the actual price of the new support extension. We do not have enough information to know whether billing will be on deposit, per month, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. The definite thing is that the service has not any possibility to get the bug fixes, just the critical and important security patches, which are necessary to keep you safe and stable.
The main focus of this program is companies whose core activity is or may be affected by cyber-attacks, i.e. those experiencing or likely to face difficulty in updating the entire complex of their IT apparatus, or, for whom security is a primary issue. Moreover, Windows 10 will function in the same way as expected if no upgrades are applied on Oct 14, 2025.
Businesses with cloud plans have to implement some IT evolution.
Instead, Microsoft is providing (seems like this time is intended just for businesses) that are not compatible with the upgrade of the OS to Windows 11 to move their hosts from x86 architecture to virtual machine environment using Microsoft 365.
To ensure that these desktops will be still able to access Windows 11 via cloud, this approach will be applied. The main system used for the company’s daily activities would then be remote and unsupported by Windows 11; however, customers may still receive security updates when these will be available.
